Copy a snapshot

Copy a completed snapshot to the same VM or to another of your VMs on the same provider and region.

The source snapshot must be Completed.

  1. On the snapshot's row, in the VM's Snapshots tab or on Backups & Snapshots, choose Copy.
  2. Enter a Name for the copy. It starts as the original name with "(copy)" added.
  3. Choose the target VM. The list shows only your VMs on the same provider and region as the snapshot. The source VM is selected by default.
  4. Confirm. The copy appears in the list. It may show Pending for a moment and then Completed, or Failed if it could not be finished.

Limits

  • Targets must be your own VMs on the same provider and region.
  • OVHcloud does not support copying a snapshot, so on OVHcloud VMs the Copy button is disabled with a hint. To get a second VM from a snapshot, create a VM from it instead.
  • A snapshot that is Pending or Failed cannot be copied. The Copy button is disabled with a hint.
