Restore a VM
Roll a VM's disk back to one of its own snapshots.
Restoring overwrites the VM's current disk with the snapshot. Anything written since the snapshot was taken is lost, and this cannot be undone.
Restore
You need a snapshot in the Completed state, and the VM must be running or stopped.
- Open the VM's Snapshots tab, or the Backups & Snapshots page.
- Choose Restore from this snapshot on the snapshot's row. If the option is greyed out, the hint says why: the VM is in another state, or the snapshot is not completed yet.
- Read the warning. Type the VM's hostname to confirm.
- Choose Restore VM. The VM shows Restoring and returns to Running.
The VM keeps the same order and IP address. Restoring does not create a new VM. If you want a new VM instead, see Create a VM from a snapshot.
A snapshot can only restore its own VM
Restore uses one of that same VM's snapshots. To bring a snapshot to another VM, copy it there first: Copy a snapshot.
